Lately, nature seems determined to get my attention.
It started with a mother fox and her kit crossing the road directly in front of me. Then there was the owl I kept hearing at night as I was settling into bed. And my little skink has become a regular visitor outside my office door.
Now I’ve had two more visitors: a red-tailed hawk and a praying mantis. At this point, I’m paying attention.
Whether you believe animals can be spirit guides, totems, synchronicities, or they’re simply beautiful encounters with nature, I think there’s something to be said for noticing what keeps showing up around us. I’ve found myself thinking about each of these animals and what they represent to me right now.
The Fox
Seeing the fox was special because she wasn’t alone. It was a mother fox with her kit, quietly crossing the road together.
Foxes are often associated with intuition, adaptability, and knowing when to move and when to stay still. But watching a mother guiding her little one made me think about protection and nurturing, too.
That one stuck with me: trust your instincts, protect what you’re nurturing, and move wisely.
The Owl
Almost every night when I go to bed, I hear an owl.
I’ve always associated owls with wisdom, intuition, and seeing beyond what’s immediately obvious. Hearing one during the quietest part of my day feels fitting.
Sometimes there isn’t anything to figure out or fix. Sometimes I just need enough quiet to listen and trust what I already know.
My Persistent Little Skink
Then there’s the skink. This little guy keeps appearing outside my office door, including again recently.
I’ve come to associate him with regeneration, renewal, and letting go of what isn’t needed anymore. I also can’t help but notice that he keeps appearing at a doorway.
Considering how much has changed in my life and at Inspired Living lately, that feels especially appropriate. I’m in a new space, continuing to grow my practice, and exploring what comes next.
Maybe the skink is just really fond of my office door. That’s entirely possible too.
The Red-Tailed Hawk
Most recently, I spotted a red-tailed hawk.
Hawks make me think about perspective. When you’re caught up in the details of everyday life, sometimes you need to zoom out and look at the bigger picture.
That idea has resonated with me lately. Pay attention, don’t get distracted by every little thing, and remember where you’re going.
The Praying Mantis
Then, on the very same day as the hawk, a praying mantis appeared.

I’ve always associated the praying mantis with stillness, patience, and timing. I actually love the contrast between these last two visitors. The hawk made me think about seeing the bigger picture, while the mantis made me think about slowing down long enough to actually see it.
Not every moment requires action. Sometimes waiting and observing is part of knowing what to do next.
Maybe I’m Just Paying More Attention
When I look at all of these encounters together, I’m less interested in trying to turn them into one big message and more interested in the fact that I’m noticing them at all.
Maybe it’s coincidence. Maybe it’s synchronicity. Maybe nature has always been this busy around me and I’m simply paying closer attention lately.
I don’t know, and honestly, I don’t think I need to.
There’s something grounding about noticing what’s around us, getting curious, and allowing an experience to mean something to us without needing to explain it.
For now, I’m enjoying my visitors and paying attention to whoever decides to show up next. And yes, I’m sure I’ll tell you about it.
